Include Your Pet in the Halloween Fun!
Published October 15, 2021
Let your pet join in on Halloween fun this year. Here’s how you can include your pet in holiday festivities and keep them safe and comfortable, whether you’re enjoying a night in or trick-or-treating.
You can easily make pet costumes from home on a budget (here are our favorite ideas this year!). If your pet is uncomfortable or grumpy in costume, bowties, bandanas, and even Halloween themed collars are always a great choice to keep everyone happy!
Even if a store-bought costume is designed for pets, remember that pets should not be left unattended in costumes.
Chocolate is a commonly known poisonous food to dogs and cats, but lesser-known ingredients in candy and other treats, such as xylitol sweeteners, are also dangerous to pets. Refrain from sharing any human food or candy with your furry friend. Instead, keep a bag of your pet’s favorite treats on hand so they don’t feel left out.

If you take your dog trick-or-treating, odds are other pet families will take their furry friends along, too. Since your pet may come into contact with other dogs, make sure they are up to date on core vaccines and the canine influenza vaccine.
Make sure your pet has an up-to-date microchip now. Many pets get lost on Halloween when they bolt out the door during trick-or-treating.
If your pet is liable to bite or gets nervous around children or other animals, it may be a good idea to let your pet enjoy a peaceful night at home while you head out for the evening or crate during trick-or-treating.
Essential Tip: We’re here to help if your pet needs up-to-date vaccinations or microchip services. Our bundled vaccine packages include recommended vaccines to take the guesswork out of our visits. Microchips cost only $25 and include lifetime registration. If your pet already has a microchip but you need to update your info, our team will be able to process that change for you with a simple microchip transfer for just $15.
